No News is Not Always Good News

Yesterday was the 12 week anniversary of our referral.  We were initially told that we would wait up to 8 weeks before hearing of our court date.  Unfortunately, it looks like it could be double that amount of time before we are told when we can go meet our little guy.  I know it sounds like I'm exaggerating, but, the truth is, I'm just coming to terms with reality.

Ethiopian adoptions have changed so much in the last year or so.  Just when we think we've gotten it figured out, some big change comes along and shakes things up.  The current situation that we find ourselves in is complicated by the fact that the federal judge in Ethiopia is requiring a guardianship document before she will give us a court date.  This is a new requirement, so it was not something that Bek's orphanage director had previously gotten.  When he went to get the document from the regional Ministry of Women's Affairs {MOWA}, he found out that the regional MOWA was called to the capital city of Addis Ababa for a month!  So, he is unable to get the guardianship document because the office he needs to get the document from is closed through February.

Additionally, the federal court is now closed for 20 days {we heard February 6 to February 26}, so even if we could get the regional document, we would not be able to get a court date until after the court closure anyway.  Sheesh!

All I know is that the devil is fighting this one hard.  I hate to tell you, devil, but, our God is greater, stronger, mightier, and "He sets the lonely in families" {Psalm 68:6}.  This wait is excruciating, but it is worth every pain.  Bek WILL come home and he WILL be an amazing testimony and God WILL use him for some mighty, mighty things.

  1. Amen! Dear friend....You are amazing and I can't wait to see what God has in store for Bek and your entire family. Love you.

  2. TIA - This is Africa. If nothing else, this whole process is teaching me to appreciate American bureaucracy. As bad as it is, it's still pretty darn good.
